Põltsamaa River

The Põltsamaa River is a 136-kilometre waterway that rises from the springs of the Pandivere Upland and winds through four counties — a distinction unique to any river in Estonia. Its upper reaches flow through farmland and villages, while the middle section passes through the bogs, fens and forests of the Endla mire complex. Near Nava, the river splits into two branches: the natural Vanajõgi and the man-made Räägu Canal, both influencing the water levels of Lake Endla. Further downstream, the river enters Viljandimaa, where historic mill dams, river islands and the remnants of early industry give this waterway a character all of its own.

Pedja River

Starting in Puurmani, the Pedja River offers a wonderfully varied paddling adventure through open pastures, untamed wilderness and stretches of river valley so lush they feel almost jungle-like. A shorter trip brings you to the Pedja campfire site, while the route beyond opens up into a longer, more demanding journey all the way to the Emajõgi. Along the way you'll discover the Altmetsa campfire site, towering ancient aspens and several wild overnight spots. A highlight in its own right is the confluence of the Pedja (Pede) and the Emajõgi, where the river's darker waters meet the pale, sandy-banked flow of the Emajõgi in a striking natural display.

Emajõgi Great Bog

The Emajõgi is one of Estonia's most significant rivers, linking Lake Võrtsjärv with Lake Peipus and offering outstanding opportunities for kayaking and canoeing. Its wide floodplain meadows, gentle current and remarkable natural diversity make the Emajõgi one of Estonia's most rewarding paddling destinations. The river suits both beginners and experienced paddlers alike — and while the current itself is calm, the greatest hazard on the water is other people: speeding motorboats and the wash they throw up can capsize even a steady canoe or kayak, so less experienced paddlers should stay alert.

It is celebrated for its wonderfully varied character — calm, gliding stretches give way to rocky rapids and faster currents.
