Peipsi Food Street — Kayak Adventure

On 15–16 August, Peipsi Food Street returns — the beloved annual event where thousands of Estonians travel a 175 km route to savour the finest flavours the Lake Peipus shoreline has to offer. I've been part of this event for six years, working behind the scenes in the kitchen, but last year I stepped back. Still, the pull is too strong to resist — this time, though, I'm coming as a guest. Let's be honest: two days of racing between restaurants by car is more of an eating rally than a truly relaxing experience. This time, we're doing things differently — we're taking to Lake Peipus by kayak. We won't cover the entire route, but the one-day paddle from Kasepää to Kurepesa Campsite is a wonderfully active and enjoyable journey. Along the way, we'll burn off at least some of those well-earned calories while stopping at every pop-up restaurant that falls on our path. The itinerary is shaped around which restaurants are participating in Peipsi Food Street this year. Our first stops are Luukarits & Ulguv Näljane and Tõnuvitsa Talu Resto, which sit close together and make for one satisfying, leisurely break. We then paddle on to Omedus, where VAH'i Resto awaits, and just before the end we take a short stroll to ULUKI resto — a welcome chance to stretch your legs and make a little more room for what's ahead. The final stop is Kurepesa Campsite, home to the restaurant Peipsimere Miraaž, where I've personally cooked in previous years. And as has become a once-a-year tradition, I'll be mixing Peipsimere Miraaž cocktails by the campfire in the evening. What happens after that is entirely up to you — whether you stay the night at the campsite in your own tent and gear is your call. You won't need to haul everything with you from the start; we'll arrange the cars to meet you at the end so you can collect your things there. This trip is led by a certified kayaking guide, ensuring a safe and authentic experience on the water.
